Weed of Significance found in Roleystone
Boneseed (Chrysanthemoides monilifera ssp. monilifera), which is a yellow daisy like flower and obviously an attractive plant introduced as a garden species, is a weed of national significance. It has been found at the Roleystone rubbish tip and in a small reserve off Contour road. Earlier this year the West Australian Agriculture Protection Board upgraded the declaration status for Boneseed to ‘must eradicate' category. It is critical that any Boneseed plant is eradicated as it has the potential to spread vigorously and cause wide spread environmental damage. The only other place it has been identified in this State so far is at Narrogin and Roleystone. Any discoveries should be reported to the Department of Agriculture South Perth 9368 333 For further information regarding identification and management of Boneseed, please check out the following website: http://www.weeds.org.au/WoNS/bitoubush References: Department of Agriculture Media Release. |
